Craps has been around a long time, but casinos are still coming up with new ways to keep things interesting. (Translation: To get our clams. Cheddar. Cabbage. You know what we mean.)

Although they won their Pass Line bets, they boo you for rolling a 7 because their Small, Tall, and All bets lose. In craps, those new things come in the form of side, or “proposition,” bets. The popular “Fire Bet” is a good example. During a recent craps session at Excalibur, we encountered three new bets to spice up the game.
From what we hear, these bets have only been in Vegas for about six months.

The first SAIL was organised by the city’s port 45 years ago as part of the celebrations to mark 700 years since Amsterdam was founded.
*For the interested, maybe by luck, I won a lot at craps last week just playing $5 on small, tall and all every roll. I could lost $300 or $400 but when ALL came in I won $1230 and frequently I won $175 for either side (small or tall). But so often I had 5 numbers and missed the 6th, or 9 numbers and missed the 10th.
*The Small, Tall and All Bets. The Small, Tall and All bets are a relatively new set of side bets found in casinos. Because casino often has a $1 minimum wager for these bets, even disciplined gamblers are known to make this wager. These are three different bets, so let’s take each one in its turn. The Small Bet wins if the shooter rolls a 2,3.
These craps side bets can be found in the middle of the table, in front of the pit boss. The pit boss is the floor manager in a suit who oversees the table and dealers, and who resolves disputes and tells the security guys when it’s time to whack a cheater. Just kidding. Player are rarely whacked. Putting heads in vices is more of a thing these days.
Anyway, the pit boss is the person who places and monitors these side bets. They’re called “All Small,” “All Tall” and “All or Nothing at All.”
These side bets can be made for as little as a dollar. The pit boss also keeps track of the numbers as they hit, placing little “buttons” on the relevant numbers.
First, “All Small.” To win this bet, the shooter must hit five small numbers (2,3,4,5,6) before a seven. The bet pays 35-for-1, so the house has an edge of 7.76%.
See, because it rhymes.
The house edge is the same for “All Tall.” Again, five numbers have to be hit before a seven (8,9,10,11,12). The order in which they’re rolled doesn’t matter, of course.
Spread the love around: A buck for the dealers, a buck for the cocktail waitress and a buck for this sucker bet.
“All or Nothing at All” pays 176-for-1, mainly because mathematicians are the real bosses of casinos, and they always know what to pay to ensure the house gets its cut. In this case, the house edge is 7.99%. A shooter has to hit a mere 10 numbers before a seven (2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,12).
The Excalibur pit boss said a customer bet $50 here on Oct. 22, 2013, walking away with $8,800.
In the grand scheme of casinos, these craps side bets aren’t great for the player, but they aren’t horrible, either. By comparison, one of our favorite side bets, the hard six and eight, pay 9-1, with a house edge of 9.09%. The house edge for a hard four and 10 is 11.11%. They’re called “hard ways” because, hey, cocktail waitresses.
Betting the Big Red Seven has a hefty 16.67% house edge.
We’re all for trying a “sucker” side bet every once in awhile to change things up at the craps table. Because, ultimately, it’s only a sucker bet if it doesn’t pay off!

An odds bet is one of the only neutral house advantage bets in the casino with a house edge of exactly 0%.

I discussed earlier that the odds of rolling a 4 or 10 are the least like point rolls in the game with a probability of 8.33% on either. But placing a bet on these also have a house edge of 6.7% making it one of the tougher bets, not only in craps but of most bets you can place in table games in the casino. A win on this bet does pay 9 to 5, but you can make better bets that will yield you a better return with less risk.Betting on 5 or 9
Another dumb bet in craps would be betting on the 5 or 9. The probability of a roll of a 5 or 9 is 11.11%, which is higher than the 4 or 10, but not enough to make it a good bet. A field bet is when you place a bet on the shooter rolling a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12.
I like to think of this bet similar to endcaps at a grocery or department store. The items they display on the endcap may be on sale, but if you look in the right section, there are much better deals elsewhere. Much like an endcap, this bet looks attractive because it has a wide field of possible results, but they have some of the lowest probabilities of actually being rolled. For the new or casual gambler, safe is always the way to go. Betting online bets are going to be the best chance of winning.
The great part about this game is that you don’t have to shoot, you can bet on the abilities of others, so if you find someone that is “hot”, you can keep betting on him and keep winning.
But if you do shoot, remember the pitfalls of the 7 on the point. And don’t be afraid to invest in yourself by betting odds or come bets.
